This session will demonstrate that with increasing demands, one of the most important tools for the fire service is the use of geographic information system (GIS) technology.

Community risk can be effectively managed and reduced with good strategic planning and effective response.

Both require adequate (efficient/appropriate) tools for collecting, analyzing and managing good data.

GIS provides the required information about when, where, and how resources are needed to help provide optimal deployment in these times of limited resources.

GIS provides a visual, spatial means of displaying data, allowing first responders to integrate and leverage their data for more informed decision making.

Improving firefighter safety is the most critical component of a department’s mission.

GIS provides the tools to work with tactical, location-based information providing situational awareness for the incident commander.

This presentation will also demonstrate how departments will be able to use the available data to exhibit the various requirements during the CFAI Accreditation process.
