All potential Parade participants are required to read and agree to the following:
Intent to Hold Event
The South Atlantic FIRE RESCUE Expo, organized and implemented by the North Carolina State Firemen’s Association, intends to hold a Fire Apparatus Parade on Saturday, August 15, 2015 commencing at 12:00 hours. The Parade is anticipated to last approximately 45 minutes.
The official name of the Event: North Carolina’s Main Street Fire Parade
Limit of Liability
Participants of the Parade agree to hold harmless the South Atlantic FIRE RESCUE Expo, the North Carolina State Firemen’s Association and any of their Agents, Parade Organizers, the City of Raleigh and other third parties to the event upon Registration.
Participation in the event is done at the risk of the registrant. The registrant assumes all costs of participation in the event, including, but not limited to travel, fuel costs, insurance, personnel costs, etc.
Cancellation of Event
In the event that it is necessary to cancel the parade for any reason, all reasonable attempts will be made to contact the participants in advance.
Reservation of Rights
The South Atlantic FIRE RESCUE Expo reserves the right to deny entry to any registrant.
Participants agree to transfer to the North Carolina State Firemen’s Association any and all rights related to still photography, video or any type of media of the event.
Categories for Participation
The following categories will be entered in the Parade:
- Modern Apparatus
- Antique Apparatus
- Unified Pipe and Drum Band
- Unified Fire Department Honor Guard
Choosing of Participants
Filling of slots for the parade will be done on a first-come, first-registered basis.
Notification of Participation or Denial
All registrants who fill out a form will be notified via email whether they have been accepted or denied.
Certificate of Participation
Registrants who have been accepted will be notified via email. Check in at the Parade Command Post on Saturday morning, August 15, 2015. Units that have not officially been accepted will not be allowed in the parade. Included in the email notification will be maps, a timeline and other pertinent data. This information will be sent out on Monday, August 10, 2015.
Parade Staging
Line up for the parade will not commence until 10:30 hours on Saturday, August 15. Directions to the staging area will be provided in your information package. You will given a twenty-minute time slot arrival time.
Entrants will NOT be lined up in a specific order. Units will enter staging in the order that they arrive on site.
Upon parking at Staging, units will be asked to send a representative to the Parade Command Post to check in.
Facilities
A comfort station (portable toilet), water station, and medical services will be provided at the Parade Command Post location for units in staging.
No facilities are provided pre-parade for apparatus washing, etc.
Route of Parade
The parade will commence on Morgan Street at Fayetteville Street, proceed south on Fayetteville for three blocks, turn west one block to Salisbury Street, and proceed south past the Raleigh Convention Center.
The length of the parade is approximately one-half of a mile long.
The public will be invited to the parade, to view along Fayetteville Street.
Rules of Conduct During Event
The following Rules will apply for the duration of the Parade:
- Emergency vehicles should operate all emergency warning lights.
- Modern apparatus MAY NOT operate their sirens (mechanical or electrical) or air horns during the parade.
- Antique apparatus may operate their mechanical sirens and or bells intermittently provided it is at a low decibel level.
- All personnel must be seated and belted at all times. Personnel may NOT ride on top, side or on the rear of apparatus. Antique fire apparatus that have no seat belts are exempt, but personnel are expected to be seated.
- Personnel may NOT march adjacent to apparatus.
- All personnel are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
- Participants may NOT throw candy, trinkets or other objects from apparatus that may cause individuals to enter the parade path.
- Marching will only be allowed for honor guards or pipe bands, and must be done in an organized manner.
Awards
Trophies will be awarded in the following categories:
- Longest Distance Traveled
- Best Appearing Modern Engine/Pumper
- Best Appearing Modern Aerial
- Best Appearing Modern Special Apparatus
- Best Appearing Antique Apparatus
- Best appearing Static Display Antique Apparatus (units located inside of the Raleigh Convention Center)
Trophies will be awarded at 14:00 hours on the Expo floor. The Association reserves the right to present a trophy in each category. The judges will be assembled by the NCSFA. The Judging Platform will be at the Balcony at the Raleigh Convention Center.
Post Parade Event
Apparatus wishing to participate in a static display of apparatus after the Parade will be directed to a Post Parade Parking location in their information package.
Organizations participating in the parade will receive up to four (4) passes per apparatus to attend the Vendor Exhibitions of the South Atlantic FIRE RESCUE Expo at the Raleigh Convention Center. You will receive passes upon checking in at the Command Post.
The exhibits will remain open until 15:00 hours on Saturday.
Apparatus will need to be removed from the Post Parade Parking by 16:00 hours.
